OF ARAB ORIGIN

Nestled in a valley between Malaga and Cadiz, it preserves a popular architecture that offers a clear testimony to its Moorish origin, with its streets of whitewashed houses and balconies full of flowers. The present-day village was founded in the 15th century by the Muslims living in Setenil de las Bodegas.  Its archaeological jewel is the dolmens of El Tomillo, a megalithic complex with a menhir unique in the province, set in a beautiful natural setting.

Its main monuments include the Baroque church of Santa María del Valle, the cortijo de la Cacería (16th century), which looks like a palace, and the Cristo de la Misericordia hermitage. Water, the main natural resource of this white village, is present in all its artistic manifestations; proof of this is the old Franciscan Convent of Caños Santos and the Fuente Grande.

SINGULARITY

A su cocina, en la que el protagonista fundamental es el espárrago y el queso, se suman unas singulares tradiciones como la  carrerita de San Juan en Semana Santa.
