BETWEEN NOVO SANCTI PETRI AND ROCHE
Average length: 2.900 m
Swimming conditions: moderate waters
Between Novo Sancti Petri and the Roche Housing Development, the Playa del Puerco is located, named after the beacon tower (Torre del Puerco) that watches the beach from the top of an embankment full of vegetation. Under reddish rocky cliffs, a wide sandy beach is found. Behind the beach, the Dehesa de La Roche, open to the public, protects the land and allows for the continued existence of vegetation and fauna, giving the beach natural charm and encourage the restful state of mind of the beachgoers. It is accessed from the Calle de La Barrosa or from the La Roche residential complex.
In some sections the beach has a steep slope which makes for a quick entry into the water. Opposite the tower this phenomenon causes conditions favorable for surfing (limited area and at set times).
Puerco Tower is a strategic point for viewing spoonbills (limes platalea) during their migratory route toward Africa.
